Haryana CM ML Khattar Likely to Resign Today Amid BJP-JJP Rift

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is likely to resign today amid indications of an impending split within the alliance between the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.

In the 2019 Assembly elections, where the BJP secured 40 out of 90 seats falling short of a simple majority, a post-poll coalition was formed with the JJP, which holds 10 seats. Dushyant Chautala, the chief and co-founder of JJP, assumed the role of Deputy Chief Minister in this arrangement.

On March 11, Chautala engaged in discussions regarding seat-sharing with BJP chief JP Nadda. The BJP had swept all 10 Lok Sabha seats in the 2019 General Elections. However, sources suggest that the BJP”s leadership in Haryana is reluctant to allocate any seats to its ally, JJP, in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Reports indicate that JJP is pressing for two Lok Sabha seats.

The BJP”s Nayab Saini or Sanjay Bhatia are being considered as Khattar”s potential replacements, reports added.

On March 10, Brijendra Singh, the former BJP MP from Haryana”s Hisar, joined the Congress.
