Jhansi Chooses BJP's Sitting MP Anurag Sharma For Another Term

Sitting BJP MP Anurag Sharma won once again from Jhansi. The BJP leader secured over six lake votes while the Congress candidate managed to accumulate over five lake votes. Anurag Sharma is a leading industrialist in the field of Ayurveda. He was nominated for the second time.

Anurag Sharma was elected from Jhansi in 2019 for the first time where Uma Bharathi, the former union minister opted out, with a margin of 365683 votes receiving 58.61 % vote share. In 2022, Anurag Sharma was elected International Treasurer of the Parliamentary Association Conference (CPA) at the 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference in Halifax, Canada.

Congress candidate Pradeep Jain is a former MP of Jhansi. He was elected in 2009 and was a minister of state in ministry of rural development. BSP nominated Ravi Prakash, a 34 year old youth.

Jhansi has given chances to all major parties. Congress and BJP represented the constituency twice and SP won once.

In 2014 election, Uma Bharathi, the BJP candidate, was elected with a vote share of  43.6%. Pradeep Jain, Congress finished fourth while Samajwadi Party’s (SP)  Dr. Chandrapal Singh Yadav and BSP’s Anuradha Sharma were the second and third. They secured 29.18 and 16.19 percentages of vote share respectively. SP reflected in the election of 2019, securing 32.12 % vote share and Congress succeeded in making a slight difference as well.
