Voting for the third phase began at 7 am. Prime Minister Narendra Modi cast his vote at a school in Ahmedabad, Gujarat early morning. The election to the more than half of the 543 Lok Sabha seats will be over with today”s third phase. Among the key candidates whose fate will be sealed today include Union Home Minister Amit Shah who is contesting from Gandhinagar (Gujarat),  Shivraj Singh Chouhan from Vidisha (MP), Jyotiraditya Scindia from Guna (MP) and Dimple Yadav from Mainpuri (UP), to name a few.

The third phase of the Lok Sabha election begins today. 93 constituencies across 11 states and Union territories will go to polls on Tuesday. Over, as many as 1351 candidates are in the fray from these 93 constituencies, with 17.24 crore people, including 8.39 crore females, eligible to vote. The voting will be held in these states and union territories including Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

In the third phase, 2 seats of Goa, 25 seats of Gujarat, 7 seats of Chhattisgarh, and 14 seats in Karnataka will be up for the contest.

9:00 PM, May 7, 2024: Assam recorded the highest voter turnout with 75.26%, followed by Goa’s 74.27% and West Bengal’s 73.93%. The lowest voter turnout was registered in Maharashtra with only 54.77%.

Other states recorded the following voter turnouts: Bihar (56.55%), Chhattisgarh (66.99%), Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (65.23%), Gujarat (56.76%), Karnataka (67.76%), Madhya Pradesh (63.09%), and Uttar Pradesh (57.34%).

8:45 PM, May 7, 2024: As of 8 pm, the voter turnout has been registered as 61.45% by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

5:55 PM, May 7, 2024: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia cast his vote from Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior. The ex-Congress and current BJP candidate is contesting from Guna Lok Sabha seat.

4:15 PM, May 7, 2024: 50.71% voter turnout till 3 pm in phase 3 Lok Sabha polls; West Bengal records 63.11% polling.

3:26 PM, May 7, 2024: After casting the vote, Assam Chief minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the people of Assam will vote for a Bharat which will become the Vishwa Guru and achieve the goal in “Amrit Kaal”. “Today is the last day of the Assam (Lok Sabha) elections. We have completed it peacefully. We recorded almost 80% voter turnout in the first two phases. I thank the whole of Assam for peaceful voting. I am sure that the people of Assam will support a Bharat that will become Vishwa Guru and achieve the goals in “Amrit Kaal”, ” he said.

11:14 AM, May 7, 2024: Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge after casting his vote, while speaking to ANI, said that he is confident that the party will get majority in the election in Karnataka. “I have been casting votes for the last 50 years…In Karnataka, we are going to get a majority, as per the reports of DK Shivakumar. The Bengaluru seat was a little tough for us but we will get clarity once more data is received…” he said.

10:45 AM, May 7, 2024: Samajwadi chief Akhilesh Yadav after casting his vote at a polling station in Saifai said, “…BJP is going to have a very bad defeat because farmers, youth, businessmen, people of every section are upset with them.”

10:09 AM, May 7, 2024: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed his confidence in winning the Lok Sabha election while speaking to the reporters. He said, “All the businessmen and the poor people will together make Congress win this time. People are regretting that they made a mistake last time and they will elect Congress party with a huge majority…”

9:32 AM, May 7, 2024: Union minister Amit Shah after casting his vote, said, “Despite the scorching heat, the voting trends are very encouraging. As far as Gujarat is concerned, about 20 per cent of voting has been completed by the voters of Gujarat in just 2.5 hours.
