In the Lok Sabha polls, former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Leader leader and Minister Balabhadra Majhi won from Nabarangpur on a BJP ticket. He garnered a total of 4,67,002 votes, and gained a vote margin of 87,963 votes. Dhanurjay Siddu from the BJD secured second position with 3,79,0,39 votes. Meanwhile, Congress’ Janardhan Dehury came third with 2,91,187 votes.
Majhi have completed Engineering from NIT Rourkela and served as a Chief Engineer in Indian Railways until 2014. However, he resigned from government service, with 7 years remaining for retirement, to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Nabarangpur seat.
In 2014 Lok Sabha election, while he was associating with the BJD got elected from Nabarangpur. However, in the 2019 polls, when BJD denied him a ticket, he switched to BJP and was given a ticket from the same constituency. Unfortunately, he lost it to then state minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi, belonging to BJD.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, BJD’s Ramesh Chandra Majhi emerged as the winner with a total of 392,504 votes. Congress’s Pradeep Kumar Majhi secured the second position with 350,870 votes. During the 2014 LS election, the BJD managed to snatch this seat from Congress by a narrow margin of only 2,042 votes. BJD’s Balabhadra Majhi received a total of 373,887 votes, while Congress’s Pradeep Kumar Majhi secured 371,845 votes.
