A video clip of Chairman and Managing Director of Axis My India poll agency breaking down and crying on live television on the India Today channel has gone viral. As the Lok Sabha election result trends suggest a close fight between the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Congress-led INDIA alliance which have subverted the exit poll results which suggested the NDA winning over 360 seats.

Based on the early trends, the NDA is touching over 289 seats while the INDIA alliance is predicted to secure over 236 seats, performing much better than the exit polls predicted. Gupta clarified that the poll agency wrongly predicted the performance of the BJP in states such as Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Maharashtra – all three states where the INDIA alliance has performed exceptionally well, subverting the poll predictions.

During a discussion with Rajdeep Sardesai and other India Today anchors, Gupta broke down even as the anchors rushed to console him. Sardesai even walked up to Gupta and said, “It’s okay, chalta rehta hai (it happens). It’s the song of life.”

When the pollster finally managed to collect himself, he again broke down crying hard. Gupta finally said that the verdict will make the government focus harder on delivering its promises.

The viral clip has generated a whole load of memes on social media platform. One user, sharing the clip wrote, “Pradeep Kumar is crying on live TV and he is the reason the markets crashed today, causing loss for 45 lakh crores. He deserves it.”

Another user wrote, “Pradeep Gupta made fun of Rahul Gandhi yesterday and called Khata Khat as nonsense. Today RaGa brought him in knees, he is crying and we aren’t feeling bad.”

An X user shared a meme criticising Gupta for his huge blunder. “Pradeep Gupta found in the BJP office,” they wrote.

“This pic of Pradeep Gupta crying is most satisfying today. Aise fake exit polls karoge to rona to padega hi (If you conduct such fake exit polls, then you will have to cry),” said another X (formerly known as Twitter) user wrote.

“People voted for Rahul Gandhi ji ‘Khata-Khat…Khata-Khat.’ Pradeep Gupta kea aansu nikal rahe hain Tapa-tap…Tapa-tap…” said another user.

The DeshBhakt dismissed Gupta’s tears and wrote, “Sorry, this RR in the studio wont help. Pradeep Gupta’s Axis My India polls gave 400+ to the NDA and claimed (very arrogantly) that they could back up every seat with hard data. The only thing that can help is Pradeep admitting that predicting elections and understanding the mind of the Indian voter is – informed guesswork at the best.”

Meanwhile, another user said, “Pradeep Gupta has all reasons to cry today. All his credibility & reputation is dusted. In fact, he must be arrested for misguiding public, democracy and stock market investors deliberately & mischievously just to please Pappa Modi.”
