Pawan Singh: BJP Naming Controversial Bhojpuri Actor Leads To Outrage

The inclusion of Pawan Singh, popular Bhojpuri playback singer, actor, music composer, stage performer, in the BJP candidate list has created controversy. Considered the best singer in the Bhojpuri film industry, Arrah-born Pawan Singh is not new to controversy. The actor who joined BJP in 2014, is among four Bhojpuri actors (Manoj Tiwari, Ravi Kishan, Dinesh Lal Yadav alias Nirahua apart from Singh) who have been fielded by BJP in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Singh will be fighting in the sitting seat of Bollywood matinee idol Shatrughan Sinha.

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale took to social media to highlight Singh”s history of creating vulgar and misogynistic videos targeting women, questioning the BJP”s endorsement of such content.

“But what about Modi? He has been paying lip service to “Nari Shakti” as part of his 2024 election campaign to hoodwink women around the country. Truth is Modi & BJP have rewarded Pawan Singh with a Lok Sabha ticket mainly for his vulgar & misogynist videos targeting the women of Bengal,” the TMC MP wrote on X.

Senior TMC leader and Asansol MP Shatrughan Sinha refrained from direct criticism, stating that it was an internal matter of the BJP. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi expressed dismay over Singh”s candidacy, calling it a sign of democracy”s impending doom.

“My head bend in shame after looking at the content created and propagated by BJP”s Asansol Lok Sabha candidate. The doom”s day of democracy is quite near!,” said Mr Singhvi.

The uproar surrounding Singh”s candidacy is further exacerbated by many reports bringing in his tumultuous personal life. Singh”s marriage to Neelam Singh ended tragically when she committed suicide in 2015, shortly after their wedding. In 2018, he married Jyoti Singh, but their relationship has been marred by allegations of domestic violence and forced abortions. Additionally, Bhojpuri actress Akshara Singh filed an FIR against Singh in 2019, accusing him of issuing death threats and posting vulgar content online after she ended their relationship.
