Rohan Gupta, The Congress Candidate Who Quit

Rohan Gupta had been Congress’ confidence from Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha constituency. However, in an unprecedented turn for the grand old party, Gupta resigned from the primary membership and all other posts from the party citing “humiliation” and “character assassination”. Before quitting the party, he withdrew from contesting citing his father’s ill health.

In a letter written to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Gupta said he resigns from “Congress Party with immediate effect”. He also posted the copy of his resignation letter on his X (formerly twitter) account.

He said, one of senior leaders of the party who is connected to the Communication department for the last two years has humiliated him, which many senior leaders in the party is aware of. He said his decision to leave the party was with broken heart and called the decision “very difficult but necessary to protect” his self respect. In his resignation letter, he said his father went through humiliation and sabotage for 40 years and does not want him to go through the same. “He doesn’t want me to pay the same price as the whole family has seen the mental trauma I have gone through in the last two years which was caused by the senior leader connected with the Communication Department”, said Gupta on his X account.

Gupta was poised to contest from a seat which currently held by BJP’s Hamukh Patel. The 46-year-old Gupta is a known Congress leader from Gujarat for his articulate presence in national media discussion. He also served as the head of Congress’ media team.
