Nitish Kumar led-Janata Dal (United) has informed the Election Commission that someone delivered an envelope with electoral bonds worth an amount of Rs 10 Crore in 2019 to its office, which was encashed within days but no information regarding the donor was received.

The Election Commission on Sunday published the details regarding the electoral bonds. This information was provided by the political parties to the Supreme Court in a sealed envelope which comprises the electoral bond details they have received. The details published on Sunday showed that Bihar’s ruling party has received a totaling amount of more than Rs 24 crore.

The party has also disclosed the names of Bharti Airtel and Shree Cement as its donors for bonds with Rs 1 Crore and Rs 2 Crore, respectively. The most interesting filing of the party came when it disclosed that they are not aware of the details of the donors of the bonds received at its Patna office on April 3, 2019, and neither did they try to know about the whereabouts as there was no order from the Supreme Court at that time.

“Somebody came to our office on 03-04-2019 at Patna and handed over a sealed envelope and when it was opened we found a bunch of electoral bonds containing 10 bonds of ₹ 1 crore each.”

The party further added that according to the gazette notification of the Government of India, they opened an account in SBI Branch, Patna, and deposited it which was credited to their account on 10th April 2019. “In this view of the situation, we are unable to provide any more details about the donors,” JD(U) said.

In another filing, the Samajwadi party disclosed total donations worth Rs 10.84 crore, of which, it said, 10 bonds, totaling Rs 10 crore, were received “by post (no name)”.

The other donors listed by the party are the Akhilesh-Yadav led party listed S K traders, San Beverages, A K Traders, K S Traders, B G Traders and AS Traders.
