Subrat Pathak is a sitting MP and BJP candidate representing Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj parliamentary constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He currently serves also as the General Secretary of the party in the state.

When 2019 Lok Sabha election results declared, Subrat Pathak”s name hit headlines for the historic win; ousting sitting MP and Samajwadi Party leader Dimple Yadav (wife of Party chief Akhilesh Yadav) from Kannauj. He defeated Yadav for a margin of 12,353 votes. Kannauj has been a stronghold of the SP and the party has not lost from the seat since 1998. SP founder elected Mulayam Singh Yadav elected from Kannauj in 1999, current party supremo Akhilesh Yadav won from the seat on three terms consecutively before Dimple Yadav began representing the seat since 2012.

Subrat Pathak”s victory in Kannauj comes after previous two failed attempts. The “Kannauj Giant-Killer” title, strengthened BJP“s faith in Subrat Pathak for the fourth time.

Subrat Pathak began active in politics during his youth days. He served as the president of the Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP. Thus, Pathak”s contribution in strengthening the party even from his early days is evident. His political debut was in 2009 Lok Sabha elections and lost to Akhilesh Yadav. Then, in 2014, he was given BJP ticket at Kannauj, where he was defeated by Dimple Yadav for a margin of 19,908 votes.

Subrata Pathak is a controversial figure. Last year, the Kannauj Police filed FIR against BJP MP and his associates for allegedly beaten up the policemen at Lohamandi post. Recently, BJP MP had a tussle with the former minister Satish Pal clash over the party ticket for Kannauj seat. The audio recordings of the phone conversation went viral too.
