Budget Cut Move Forces BBC To Layoff 2,000 Employees, Including News Section
London, United Kingdom: Amid issues with funding, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), one of the world’s largest broadcast news organisation, is all set to layoff around 2,000 staff. The layoff, set to take place from next week, also affects the news division of the organisation.
The moves come as part of the cost cut amid talks regarding future funding. The BBC is expected to reduce about a tenth of its budget after laying off around 2,000 employees. The media firm is funded principally by an annual television licence fee, which is charged to all British households, companies, and organisations.

The news division manages television, websites, radio, and app across the regions. Cuts in the department are expected to lead to a large number of job losses. Other sections such as content will also be affected. The company’s new director-general Matt Brittin had warned of ‘hard and unpopular choices’ for a financially stable future for the media firm.
One of the reasons for the layoff could be the AI onslaught to the industry, facilitating the cost-cutting measures for better profit. Notably, several other tech firms including Meta has announced major layoffs recently – all part of the budget cut measures.
