Shiv Aroor Joins NDTV as Managing Editor
New Delhi, 2 April 2025 – Shiv Aroor, one of India’s most recognised journalists and television anchors, has taken up the mantle of Managing Editor at NDTV, marking a significant chapter in his illustrious career. The announcement, made by Aroor himself on X, has sparked widespread interest, with the 44-year-old expressing his eagerness to “build something special” at the broadcaster, which had seen some high profile exits including major names like Ravish Kumar, Sreenivasan Jain, Nidhin Razdan, Sonia Singh and Suparna Singh after Adani Group took over the network in 2023.
Shiv Aroor’s move follows a high-profile departure from India Today in February 2025, where he spent 18 years, rising from a young reporter to Senior Executive Editor.
“Some news to share. I’ve joined NDTV as Managing Editor today. Honoured by the trust. Grateful for the love. And excited to build something special. I’ll be right here — for viewers, friends, critics and haters. Let’s roll,” he wrote on X.
Aroor’s journey in journalism began with a degree in English from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, followed by a postgraduate qualification in international journalism from Cardiff University. Initially cutting his teeth at The Indian Express, he found his calling in defence reporting—a niche that propelled him to prominence at India Today. As a primetime anchor, he covered conflicts in Kashmir, Sri Lanka, Libya, and India’s Northeast, earning two awards for his Libya war dispatches. In 2007, he founded Livefist, a defence news portal that garnered global acclaim, securing DefenceIQ Blogging Awards in 2012 and 2013.
Beyond the newsroom, Aroor has made his mark as an author. Alongside Rahul Singh, he co-wrote the bestselling *India’s Most Fearless* series, with the third volume released in 2022, celebrating real-life military valour. His 2017 novel, *Operation Jinnah*, showcased his flair for fiction, blending his love for aircraft and Special Forces. Notably, the 2024 Tamil film *Amaran* drew inspiration from his reporting on Major Mukund Varadarajan.
With over a million followers on X, Aroor’s sharp-witted posts often stir debate. While some users suggest a pro-BJP slant in his political coverage, his supporters laud his fearless approach. His personal side shines through in his affection for dogs—his pet Kobe often features online—and a familial link to Kannada poet Panje Mangesh Rao.
