Initial reports says the tragedy happened soon after the women rushed out of the venue after preacher Bhole Baba ended the congregation, as per report by Hindustan Times. The media house citing Inspector general Aligarh Range Shalabh Mathur said that prima faciei it appeared that some people felt suffocated at the premises because of the hot and humid weather and when the ‘satsang’ ended. When they rushed out, it resulted in stampede killing many women.

According to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sikandara Rao police station, the apparent overcrowding caused the stampede. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolence to the deceased and directed officials to reach the site and carry out relief and rescue measures.

In a social media post, the chief minister said that the incident is “extremely sad and heart-wrenching,” adding that  instructions have been given to the concerned officials to conduct relief and rescue operations on war footing and to provide proper treatment to the injured.

“Hon’ble Minister in Uttar Pradesh Government, Shri Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary Ji, Shri Sandeep Singh Ji have left for the incident site and have directed the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of the state to reach the incident site. A team has been formed under the leadership of ADG, Agra and Commissioner, Aligarh and instructions have also been given to investigate the causes of the accident. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed souls in his feet and provide speedy recovery to the injured,” a rough translation of his post reads.
