
China’s Sichuan University Surpasses Stanford, MIT and Oxford In Scientific Research
According to the reports published in the South China Morning Post, a regional university in Southwest China has surpassed the Western institutions with its high-quality scientific research output under a new ranking of global universities. The SCU has listed at 11th place among the world’s leading academic institutions based on the research output. However, the US’s Harvard University grabbed the top spot, the other nine institutions are all in China.

As per the Nature Index, the Sichuan University (SCU), Chengdu has overtaken Stanford University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Oxford University and the University of Tokyo in less than two years.
The index is prepared and maintained by the highly regarded academic journal Nature. The ranks are based on the contributions of the research institutions to articles published in the world’s most influential science journals.
Reportedly, the SCU has come far in just two years, in 2023 the university was ranked at 26th place in Nature Index.

As per the latest ranking, the SCU has performed well in chemistry at ninth in the world in the subject area. Research topics such as organic chemistry, chemical engineering, materials engineering, macromolecular chemistry and materials chemistry made the biggest contributions to the university’s improved position, according to Nature.
The Nature Index measures five major subject areas: biological sciences, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, health sciences, and physical sciences.
