Construction Committee Chief Confirms Leakage Of Ayodhya Temple Roof In Rainfall

Chief Priest of Ayodhya Ram temple Acharya Satyendra Das said on Monday that the Ram temple roof is facing water leakage during the recent rainfall. The priest said that the lack of a drainage system caused the ceiling leakage, indicating negligence in the construction. The leak happened near the area where the Ram Lalla idol was installed, according to the priest.

Expressing his surprise over the occurrence despite increased efforts, monitoring, and the presence of many engineers, the priest said that the roof of the sanctum sanctorum where the idol of Ram Lalla was installed started to leak when the first rain hit the region.

“So many engineers are here, and the Pran Pratishtha was held on January 22, but water is leaking from the roof. Nobody would have thought this,” news agency ANI quoted Acharya Satyendra Das as saying.

Following the allegations, Chairperson of the Sri Ram Mandir Construction Committee, Nripendra Mishra, has confirmed the leakage, and reportedly gave instructions to repair the area and make arrangements for waterproofing.

The Ram temple was inaugurated on January 22 in a grand opening led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders such as Amit Shah, Yogi Adityanath, and JP Nadda. The temple has been given huge public and political attention as it was constructed after demolishing the Babri Masjid following the Supreme Court order on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute.

The government had projected the temple as one of the major achievements of its term, while the opposition alleged the weaponisation of the temple for political gains.

During the time of the inauguration, some priests, including Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, refused to attend the consecration, citing concerns about opening before the completion of the construction. He had also alleged the political intention behind the speedy inauguration ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

However, the chief priest has also asked the temple authorities to take immediate corrective measures. He noted that the absence of an immediate measure would make it difficult to offer prayers when the rain hits the temple roof while also raising the need to have a proper drainage system to control the rainwater.

Chairperson of the Sri Ram Mandir Construction Committee Nripendra Mishra said that the leakage was already expected on the spot, adding that the problem will be resolved once the construction is complete. “I saw the raindrops dropping from the first floor. This is expected because Guru Mandap is exposed to the sky as the second floor and completion of Shikhar will cover this opening,” ANI quoted the chairperson of the Sri Ram Mandir Construction Committee.
