Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar today hit back at the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying that it was strange that a person who had been banished from Gujarat by the Supreme Court for misusing the law is now the Home Minister of the country. The NCP leader’s remarks come days after the Home Minister called him a “ringleader of corruption” in politics in the country.

“A few days ago, Home Minister Amit Shah attacked me and said a few things. He said that Sharad Pawar is the commander of all the corrupt people in the country. Strangely, the man who is the Home Minister of the country today is such a person who misused the law of Gujarat and for this, the Supreme Court banished him from Gujarat,” said Sharad Pawar.

While speaking at a  BJP conclave in Maharashtra’s Pune recently, the Home Minister said that the opposition is accusing the saffron party of corruption, but the biggest ringleader of corruption in Indian politics is Sharad Pawar. “If any politician in any government in the country has institutionalised corruption, it is Sharad Pawar,” Amit Shah said, affirming that he has no confusion about it.  “If somebody has done the job of institutionalising corruption, Sharad Pawar, it is you. And you are accusing us of corruption?” the Home Minister added.

Following the attack from the top brass of the BJP, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP had flagged concerns against the union home minister’s criticism of NCP founder Sharad Pawar fearing that it may backfire. It is reported that some of the NCP leaders have written the BJP in defence of Sharad Pawar. Following the electoral debacle after recent election, Ajit Pawar-NCP had suffered blow, with many top leader resigning from the party to join Sharad Pawar faction.
