The National Centre of Meteorology in the UAE (NCM) has issued orange and yellow alerts as the rains intensified in parts of the country on Sunday. The Gulf nation is witnessing the current rains as Cyclone Shakthi in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Oman was downgraded to a tropical storm.

The Yellow alert shows that the public should be cautious while heading outdoors, and the Orange alert is more serious. Residents and visitors of these areas can expect dangerous weather and should keep an eye out for instructions from the NCM authorities.

The generally unstable weather has caused rising sea waves in Khorfakkan, on the east coast of the UAE and the Arabian Sea. Meanwhile, Masafi, a little further in from the east coast, experienced torrential rains. The heavy downpour turned roads into streams, making driving challenging. Heavy rains have drastically reduced visibility drastically to drive.

As per the weather predictions, the low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea was to develop into a category 1 cyclone. Residents of Oman were warned of the possible storm.  The cyclone was later downgraded to a tropical storm by the authorities.
