IMD issued a red alert for coastal Karnataka on June 27, and the Kannada district deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan ordered the close of Anganwadis, government-aided and primary high schools as heavy rain continued in the district. The IMD has issued a red alert for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts of Karnataka.
The Karnataka coast expects to experience turbulent weather with winds blowing at a speed between 35 kmph and 45 kmph, potentially going up to 55 kmph. The rainfall is expected to continue from June 28 to June 30. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) and Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) declared a red alert for Coastal Karnataka till 8:30 am Thursday.

In the last 24 hours, Manchi in Bantwal taluk, Dakshina Kannada, recorded the highest rainfall with 188 mm which is the highest received this season so far. Other areas that experienced substantial rainfall include Ira, Balthila, Balepuni, Malavoor, Kotekar, and Golthamajalu. Residents in these areas are asked to stay safe and take necessary precautions amid the expected heavy rains and strong winds.
The district administration has issued various precautionary measures after the arrival of the monsoon. Several areas prone to landslides are identified and precautionary measures are implemented to mitigate risks. As per the official orders, fishermen have been instructed not to venture into fishing and the public has also been suggested to go to the seashore or river bank. Schools may switch to online mode if conditions worsen in the area under the red alert.
IMD has issued Orange Warning for the interior Southern Karanataka.
