Heavy Rain Lashes In Delhi, IMD Predicts More Showers

Delhi and parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) on Friday woke up to light showers as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted more rain throughout the day. The continuous rain in the region has caused waterlogging and traffic snarls in several areas. The IMD has issued an orange alert for Friday.

The visuals of waterlogged roads near ITO, Sangnam Vihar area, and Kalkaji, are going on rounds on social media.

The Delhi police has issued travel advisories for commuters, urging them to plan their journeys accordingly.

“Heavy rain at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. Thunderstorms/Lightning at isolated places throughout northwest India except Haryana,” the weather department said on Friday.

The maximum temperature in Delhi on Friday is expected to hover at 28 degrees Celsius, six notches below normal, according to the weather department.

“Heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy rain at isolated places over west Uttar Pradesh. Heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Haryana, Chandigarh, east Uttar Pradesh and east Rajasthan. Heavy rain at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. Thunderstorm/Lightning at isolated places over north west India except Haryana,” the IMD wrote in its bulletin.

According to the weather office, the heavy rain is due to a depression moving closer to the region – which will weaken into a low-pressure area by today afternoon.

So far, the national capital has received an annual rainfall of 1,005.7 mm, the highest since 2021, when it recorded 1526.8 mm of rain. The all-time high was 1534.5 mm in 1933.

Apart from Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh are likely to witness rain over the next two to three days.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand is expected to experience heavy to moderate rainfall in isolated areas.
