Popularly known as Jowie, Joseph Irungu released his gospel song titled “I Believe” from prison after a Nairobi court convicted him for killing businesswoman Monica Kimani in 2018. Jowie has been sentenced to death.

Previously, Jowie had released a song moments after he was granted bail from Kamiti Maximum Security Prison. On March 9, he released the song “Nakuabudu” (I Worship You) hours after he was found guilty of Kilmani’s murder. The song includes lyrics suggesting that Jowie surrenders his life to God.

The 33-year-old”s latest release, “I Believe,” has garnered over 100,000 views within six days. “May this song minister to all of us. We are in different storms of life, but one thing I know for sure: We shall overcome some day,” said the description of the music video.

Reportedly, the convict has over 20 songs he has written and recorded, which will be released over the course. He claims to inspire healing and transformation among his listeners through his music, calling it his testimony.

He has over 42 thousand subscribers on his YouTube channel. Coming from a family of musicians, Jowie is known to be the founding member of the church choir Agape Stormers.

The timing of his music releases has sparked mixed reactions among netizens. While some are praising his resilience, others are questioning the inappropriateness of the whole situation.

Kilmani, 28, was found dead in a bathtub with her throat slit from ear to ear and her hands and legs tied together with cable ties. She was found dead at her Lamuria Garden apartment on September 19, 2018.
