Influencer Claims She Said No To Rs 3.6 Lakh for Promoting Ambani Wedding - Here's Why

Kavya Karnatac, a popular influencer with over 2.3 million followers, recently shared on LinkedIn her decision to reject a lucrative Rs 3.6 lakh offer to promote the Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant wedding that hit the headlines recently. The deal required her to highlight how the wedding would boost the Indian economy, but, according to her post, she declined despite the offer being higher than her usual rate of Rs 3 lakh.

Kavya outlined her reasons:

Oversaturation and Personal Brand: Kavya said joining a crowded promotion risked diluting her brand’s uniqueness. “I didn’t want to be part of an overwhelming crowd promoting the same narrative. It’s easy to get lost in the noise. I believe in maintaining the distinctiveness and value of my content, which thrives on diversity and originality. Aligning with an overly promoted narrative like Ambani’s wedding would dilute my brand’s uniqueness,” she wrote.

Audience Trust: Another point she raised is that promoting a corporate giant like Ambani felt insincere amidst rising Jio internet charges. “At a time when Jio has increased internet charges, promoting a corporate giant like Ambani felt insincere. Trust is fragile and built over time through consistent honesty. My audience is discerning; they can differentiate between paid promotions and genuine content. Thus, preserving their trust is crucial,” she added.

Ethical Concerns: According to Kavya, promoting a high-profile wedding contradicted her values, especially given the socio-cultural issues surrounding marriages in India. “As an educator and creator, promoting such an event could be misleading. It’s more suited for fashion or lifestyle influencers. While I’ve previously worked with Ambani, promoting Vantara, claiming that a wedding could positively impact the Indian economy might not be factually accurate,” she reasoned.

Personal Integrity: She believes preserving her integrity and audience loyalty was more valuable than the financial gain. “A 3.6 lakh deal is tempting. However, the long-term benefits of maintaining my integrity far outweigh the short-term financial gain. Integrity builds a loyal following, which is invaluable,” she ascertained.

Mukesh and Nita Ambani have hosted a series of extravagant celebrations for their youngest son Anant’s wedding, featuring performances by international stars like Rihanna and Justin Bieber. The festivities, spanning multiple lavish events, have reportedly cost around Rs 5,000 crore, making it one of the most expensive weddings globally.
