Bangladesh’s captain Shakib Al Hassan ruled out from ICC World Cup 2023 following a fracture in his left index finger. Shakib suffered the injury during the match against Sri Lanka on Monday, November 6.
Shakib will miss Bangladesh’s last group game of the tournament against Australia in Pune on November 11. International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed his absence in the next game.

An X-ray soon after the match confirmed the fracture. National Team Physio Bayjedul Islam Khan gave further details of the injury. He said, “Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers”.
Recovery is estimated to be within three to four weeks. The star player will return back to Bangladesh today to begin rehab.
Shakib guided Bangladesh to victory against Sri Lanka by hitting match-winning 82 runs from 65 balls. His stupendous performance on Monday earned him the Player of the match award.
Shakib recently hit the headlines after the controversial time-out dismissal of Sri Lankan batter Angelo Mathew. While Shakib defended his action by saying it was within the rules of the game.
Meanwhile, though, Bangladesh had a three wicket win against Sri Lanka could not move to semi-finals after claiming only two wins out of eight matches.
The match on Monday didn’t end well for both the teams as it turned out to be the most controversial match of this tournament as well as in the entire history of World Cups. The match had numerous heated moments rights from the beginning. Soon after Bangladesh got their winning runs, Sri Lankan players walked out of the field refusing to shake hands with Bangladesh.
