The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Amol Muzumdar, a batting stalwart-turned-coach as the new head coach of the Indian women”s cricket team. The Board made the announcement on Wednesday. Mr Muzumdar will take the position that has been left vacant after Ramesh Powar’s surprise removal in December last year.

Mr Muzumdar, a right-handed batsman, scored 11,167 runs in 171 first-class matches with 30 centuries. He has won several Ranji Trophy titles with Mumbai and later represented Assam and Andhra Pradesh. Though his achievements are noteworthy, he never got the chance to play for the Indian cricket team.
His coaching career is also equally impressive. Mazumdar held the position as the head coach of the Mumbai Ranji team in last two domestic seasons; besides, he has also served coaching positions with Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, and with the South African national team during their tour of India in 2019.
Accepting the position, Mr Mazumdar said: “This is a huge responsibility and I look forward to working closely with talented players and providing them with the right preparation and guidance to excel,” statement released on BCCI website read.
