Cricket Australia on Tuesday revealed encouraging numbers for the ticket sales of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, starting from November 22.
The hosts have shared that the sales for the opening day of the ticket have grown three-fold in comparison to 2018/19. Notably, during the 2020-21 tours, the match was played in front of 30,000 spectators at the 100,000-plus capacity stadium due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Furthermore, the sales for Days 2 to 4 have also increased by an impressive 5.5 times from India’s tour Down Under in 2018/19.
“The Border Gavaskar series is a highly anticipated event and current ticket sales demonstrate there is enormous interest in the upcoming contest between Australia and India,” said Joel Morrison, Executive General Manager, Events & Operations at CA.
“Tickets are selling fast for all five Tests as excitement continues to build for the summer ahead, so we’re encouraging fans to buy tickets now to ensure they don’t miss out on any of the action,” he added.
Another important metric is showcasing that the tickets bought by fans hailing from India — 3.9 per cent as opposed to a mere 0.7 — are higher as compared to 2018/19.
“We also continue to see strong sales from Indian fans as well as Australian fans, presenting a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the enduring connection between our two countries both on and off the field, with a large contingent of travelling fans expected to attend Tests across the summer,” said Morrison.
The five-Test Border-Gavaskar series will conclude with the final match in Sydney, starting January 3.
