India”s middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer survived an injury scare at the nets during a practice session ahead of the first Test against England, starting from January 25. The Kolkata Knight Riders” captain suffered a blow to his forearm during the net session on Tuesday.
Team India physio Kamlesh Jain attended Iyer after he walked off the nets to make sure he received the necessary treatment. Following a brief break and ice-pack treatment, he was seen batting at the nets again. It was a positive sign for the hosts who will miss out on Virat Kohli”s abilities in the first two Tests.

Iyer will be a key member of the Indian batting line-up in the home conditions. He will be eager to get among runs after a disappointing South Africa tour. In between 2021-24, Iyer has featured in 12 Test matches where he scored 707 runs at an average of 39.27. He has scored a century and five centuries during this phase and will look to make the most of the four-day practice session.
Meanwhile, England arrived in Hyderabad on January 21. The visitors underwent their initial part of the preparation in Abu Dhabi. The late arrival of the visitors has sparked criticism at home with former England fast bowler suggesting that they are under-prepared and staring at a 0-5 defeat.
The five-match Test series will be important for both sides in the World Test Championship cycle from 2023 to 2025. The hosts are currently at the second spot while England are seventh in the top nine teams table.
