Delhi Capitals Jake Fraser-McGurk played a quick-fire knock on his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut on Friday against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow to join the list of highest run scorers on debut for the franchise.
Chasing a decent target of 168 runs, Delhi Capitals lost their opener David Warner cheaply. Fraser-McGurk, however, took charge of the chase as he notched up 55 runs in 35 deliveries, which included two boundaries and five hits over the top.
In the process, he became the second-highest run-scorer for Delhi Capitals on debut. Former Delhi Capitals opener Gautam Gambhir records the most runs for his franchise on debut as he played an unbeaten knock of 58 runs against Rajasthan Royals in 2008.
Incidentally, Fraser-McGurk also recorded the second-highest score for a batter at No.3 on debut innings. Former Chennai Super Kings” batter Michael Hussey had notched up the highest score of an unbeaten 116 runs on his debut against Punjab Kings in 2008.
His knock helped Delhi Capitals break their two-match winless run in the IPL 2024. “Little relief, we wanted a win badly. I was talking to the boys saying we need to think like champions, we need to keep fighting hard,” DC captain Rishabh Pant said after the match.
On being asked about Fraser-McGurk, he said: “Hopefully, we”ve found our new number 3, haven”t thought too much about it. Hope he can continue”.
