IPL 2024: Gujarat Titans Captain Shubman Gill Fined INR 12 Lakh For Slow Over Rate

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was on Wednesday slapped with a fine of INR 12 lakh for maintaining slow over rate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium.

Incidentally, it was the first-ever slow over rate incident in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

“Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on March 26. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Gill was fined ₹12 lakh,” IPL said in an official statement.

Gill was elevated to the Gujrat Titans leadership position after Hardik Pandya was traded to Mumbai Indians. The premier India opener began his captaincy stint on a positive note as his side beat five-time champions Mumbai Indians in the inaugural clash by six runs.

However, Gujarat Titans registered a loss by 63 runs against defending champions CSK in the first away clash of the season. By the virtue of the loss, the Ahmedabad franchise is currently placed at the sixth spot in the IPL 2024 points table with a win and one defeat in two matches.

The Gill-led side will take on SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their next clash on Sunday.
