In a major sigh of relief for the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mustafizur Rahman departed for Chennai to join the IPL franchise after an injury scare. The Bangladesh fast bowler suffered the injury scare during the third ODI against Sri Lanka on Monday.
The incident took place in the 10th over of the Sri Lankan innings when Rahman complained of pain in his leg and was unable to walk off himself. He was immediately stretchered off the ground and looked uncomfortable.
However, putting aside all the speculations of his availability for the IPL 2024, Rahman shared a picture of himself waiting to depart for the “new assignment”.
“Excited and Looking forward to my new assignment. Heading to Chennai for IPL 2024. Keep me in your prayers so that I can deliver my best,” Rahman wrote.

Earlier, Sri Lanka slinger Matheesha Pathirana injured himself during the second T20I against Bangladesh and missed out on the third match. It is likely that Pathirana might be unavailable for the initial few matches in the lucrative tournament after he sustained a grade-one hamstring injury on the left leg.
The incident took place during the fourth over of the match when Pathirana was seen clutching his left hamstring as he tried to complete the over but was unable to finish the spell. Incidentally, he is also the fastest bowler in the CSK squad who can clock around 150kmph consistently.
Pathirana joined the CSK squad in IPL 2022 when he was roped in as a replacement for the injured Adam Milne. He displayed his brilliance in the last season as he scalped 19 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 19.53 with the best bowling figures of 3/15.
