IPL 2024: Navjot Singh Sidhu Set For Commentary Return After A Decade

Former India cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, a veteran in the commentary box, is set to make a comeback as a commentator in the IPL 2024 after a decade.

Sidhu has been a jubilant figure in the commentary box due to his “Sidhuisms”, his own way of describing the match proceedings in a fun and humorous manner, has been confirmed as a commentator by the official broadcasters. He said that the lucrative tournament will be key for the Indian and foreign players to book themselves a berth in the T20 World Cup which will take place in the USA and Caribbean.

“The IPL will set the tone for the World Cup. There is no other cricket happening. The eyes of the world are on IPL. This is where you can snatch a berth for the T20 World Cup, not only Indians, even the foreign players,” Sidhu told PTI in an interview facilitated by the IPL”s official TV broadcaster “Star Sports”.

Sidhu, 60, has been away from commentary for quite some time now but he is confident of taking on the role like a fish takes to water. His undying love for cricket has kept him going in the unforgiving world of politics.

“Boss, cricket is my first love. If your hobby becomes your profession there is nothing better than that. A duckling would never forget how to swim, I will take to commentary like a fish takes to water.”

Following his retirement from cricket, Sidhu took on commentary stint which he was not very confident of initially. However, he grew through the ranks with his own antics, and was paid heavily for the entertainment he provided from the commentary box.

“From Rs 60-70 lakh for the whole tournament, I was taking Rs 25 lakh per day in IPL. The satisfaction was not with money, the satisfaction was that time would fly. It was beautiful.”
