The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has fined the Punjab Cricket Association INR 1.1 crore for erecting unauthorized IPL- flex boards and advertisements on roadsides in Chandigarh, as per a report in The Times of India.
The civic body issued a show-cause notice against the Cricket Association for violating the norms of the Chandigarh Advertisement Control Order 1952.
PCA has been handed a deadline until April 30 to deposit the advertisement fee and file a reply to the show-cause notice. In case, they fail to deposit the amount, proceedings will be started against them.
The Cricket Association has installed flex boards at multiple places under the jurisdiction of Chandigarh.
“It has come to the notice that you have violated the above stated provisions of the Chandigarh Advertisement Control Order, 1952 by erecting flex boards and displaying advertisements to the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches scheduled in the I.S Bindra stadium, Sector 63, and the directions to various gates and parking to the stadium via flex boards along various roadside without the written permission of the competent authority. Hence you are directed to deposit Rs.1.1 crore by April 30 without fail, failing which the amount should be recovered from you along with 18% penal interest,” the MC said in its notice to PCA.
The notice mentioned that as per clauses 3 and 4 of the Chandigarh Advertisement Control Order 1952, no person or body, can affix or retain any sky-sign and display advertisements in these boards etc within Chandigarh UT.
