Real Madrid’s new recruit Kylian Mbappe has been denied to wear the France mask at the UEFA Euro 2024. His mask displayed the tri-colors of the French flag when he stepped into a light training session with his teammates on Thursday.
Mbappe had suffered an injury to his nose during France’s 1-0 win over Austria on Monday after he collided with Austria defender Kevin Danso’s shoulder.
The French World Cup winner will not be allowed to wear the tricolor mask due to the UEFA rules unless a special exemption is made. As per the rules, a player can wear only a single colored mask at the UEFA event.
“Medical equipment worn on the field of play must be a single colour and free of team and manufacturer identification,” reads a portion of UEFA’s regulations.
France coach Didier Deschamps had highlighted that Mbappe is likely to make a return to the side for the fixture against Netherlands on Friday. However, as per multiple media reports, it has been speculated that he will start from the bench before making it to the starting XI in France’s final group-stage match against Poland.
“Everything is going well, after the shock we had. He was able to take part in some light exercises yesterday, and that will be the same this evening. Everything is evolving in the right direction,” Deschamps said. “We’ll do all we can to ensure that he’ll be available tomorrow.”
