Spanish champions Real Madrid beat Getafe 2-0 in La Liga on Sunday with Kylian Mbappe finding the net after a difficult week. The French captain had received heavy criticism after failing to deliver against Liverpool, but after Jude Bellingham opened the scoring from the penalty spot, Mbappe grabbed in the chance.

Though Mbappe missed three clear opportunities to score, Real Madrid was able to climb within one point of league leaders Barcelona, who had lost on Saturday at home against Las Palmas.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has compared the striker to a bottle struggling to disperse its content. “I’m sure he will end up scoring a lot more goals, sometimes it’s like a bottle that’s a bit blocked… when it all starts coming out at once, I think a lot more goals will follow,” said Courtois.
Mbappe produced a glorious chipped pass to put Brahim Diaz in behind early in the second period, but the Morocco International’s effort sailed narrowly over the crossbar.

He had spurned two other fine chances as his anxiety to prove his worth in a Madrid shirt following his summer move from Paris Saint-German continued to yell, despite his goal.

Ancelotti praising Mbappe’s contribution said, “[Mbappé] was dangerous as always. He scored an important goal to help us control the game better, and he had chances in the second half. He had a very active game, and that’s what we want from him.”

Before the match, Mbappe had only scored two goals in nine matches and had missed a penalty against Liverpool in the Champions League earlier in the week.

Moreover, elaborating on the support of his fans, he added, “The fans understand more than anyone else what the moment of the team and the players is. They supported Mbappé, which is fair.”
