Concerning revelations on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have brought former IPL chairman Lalit Modi into the spotlight again. The founder of the biggest and most lucrative T20 cricket league in the world, the Indian Premier League (IPL), has made a huge allegation against the five-time champions, CSK.
While speaking on a YouTube podcast of Raj Shamani, Figuring Out, Lalit Modi said that Srinivasan wanted Andrew Flintoff at any cost and thus they rigged the auction, so no one else would get him.
He said that they have said to all franchises not to bid for Flintoff because Srinivasan wanted him. “Yes, we did it [bid rigging]. Every franchise franchise knew about it. We told everybody not to bid for Flintoff because Srinivasan wanted him. He was being a thorn because he didn’t like IPL and thought it would fail.”

Srinivasan had asked then IPL commissioner Lalit Modi to exclude Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera from CSK’s roster so that English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff could be picked. Flintoff was bought by the team for a then-record fee of Rs 7.5 crore in the 2009 IPL player auction.
Apart from that he had also made serious allegations saying that Srinivasan had used to change umpires during the CSK matches.
He said that Srinivasan initially had doubts regarding the success of the IPL and later became a significant adversary.
“He started changing the umpires and putting CSK umpires on CSK games. It was an issue for me. That’s direct fixing. When I started exposing him, he went against me,” he added.
“When you’re trying to organize an event like the IPL, and I’m doing it single-handedly, you need to remove every thorn. What is bigger for the game? Every player is there only for three months, maybe three years. He didn’t like the IPL and he didn’t think it would work, but then it started to work.”
