Premier League defending champions Manchester City have spotted Julian Alvarez’s replacement, in the form of Icelandic forward Orri Oskarsson.
Alvarez parted ways with the club in 2024 to join Spanish giants Atletico Madrid after spending a season on loan at River Plate. It is believed that the Pep Guardiola-managed side are the favorites to sign the Copenhagen player with a number of European clubs showing interest in the 19-year-old who netted 12 goals for Sønderjyske and eight goals for his national team in the previous season.
Although Manchester City are content with their current squad, as per The Athletic, the Guardiola-managed side are eager to rope in as a backup option after Alvarez’s departure who is regarded highly by Atletico Madrid’s manager Diego Simeone.
“Julian worked a lot for the team, took up positions so we could recover the ball and counter-attack”, as per reports from Diario AS.
“He played a role in the second goal, and of course, he wants to score like Sorloth, he’ll get there.”
Guardiola confirmed their interest in the Icelandic forward and suggested the possibility of signing him till the end of the transfer window.
“With the squad, I am very pleased with the quality they have as human beings and the quality they have as players. Maybe in other years I said, ‘No chance’ (of new signings), but maybe this season it is going to happen until the end of the market. I don’t know yet, we have to talk and see what happens,” Guardiola had said.
Manchester City are also keen on getting the services of Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi.
