Manu Bhaker who won her first Olympics medal, and also India’s first medal in Paris Olympics said she is dedicating her victory to for her country which has been an incredible source of love and support.
Manu Bhaker finished third in the Women’s 10 m Air Pistol competition in Paris today. The Indian shooter, who is the first woman from her country to win a medal in shooting, was eliminated in the Tokyo Olympics after a reported gun malfunction, but this time she made sure that her shots were on point. The Haryana-born 22 had was a gold medalist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games at the age of 16 and also was the youngest Indian to win a gold at ISSF World Cup.
“Winning this medal is a dream come true, not just for me but for everyone who has supported me. I am deeply grateful to the NRAI, SAI, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Coach Jaspal Rana sir, Haryana government and OGQ. I dedicate this victory to my country for their incredible support and love,” Bhaker wrote on X.
Backer, in an interview to news agency said that the feeling is surreal and feels so good and happy that she could win the medal for all of the Indians. “This is coming home after so long. I am very happy. Maybe, many more (medals) will come in the following days in shooting and other sports…,” she added.
after her win at the shooting range, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the country in congratulating the young shooter who aimed to win big at Paris Olympics.
“Well done, Manu Bhaker, for winning India’s FIRST medal at #ParisOlympics2024! Congrats for the Bronze. This success is even more special as she becomes the 1st woman to win a medal in shooting for India. An incredible achievement!,” PM Modi wrote on X.
