Stephen Curry and Sabrina Lonescu are great three-point shooters. But this weekend, the duo got into a battle in the first-ever three-point contest at all-star weekend. The Golden Warriors star edged past Lonescu on Saturday when the two sharpshooters faced-off in the contest to settle a long-standing debate.
The contest was neck-and-neck as Curry scored 29 points while the New York Liberty star scored 26. She said that it was an amazing face-off in the first-of-a-kind event. “That was amazing,” Lonescu said on the TNT broadcast. “Just to be able to have this be the first of this kind of event and come out here and put on a show but understanding what this means. Excited to change the narrative and be able to do it alongside the greatest to ever do it.”
The Golden Warriors star wore a three-point champion belt and complimented her counterpart. “This couldn’t have gone any better in the sense of us two taking the chance in front of this stage, running around with all the hype, and to deliver like that, she set the bar, it was unbelievable to watch,” Curry said. “So, this might be something – I don’t know if anybody can fill these shoes but it might be something that we need to do more often.”
Notably, Curry is two-time NBA three-point champion and holds the record for the most three points made in the league (3642). However, Lonescu set the WBNA record for most three-pointers in a single match at 128. She has also set record for WBNA and NBA all-time record in the three-point contest last season, amassing 37 points out of a total 40.
The charity of Curry and Lonescu will receive donation from NBA and WNBA. They will also have a chance to raise funds for the NBA foundation that aims to empower the Black Community.
