Now, T10 Cricket League; BCCI Is Working On It: Report

It seems that the popular Gully and paddy fields cricket format of 10 overs is set to become part of the international cricket calendar. If everything goes according to plan, there will also be a league in the coming year.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the all powerful Indian cricket body, is exploring the possibility of launching a T10 cricket league, with a potential kickoff between October and September next year, according to a report by Moneycontrol on Friday. BCCI secretary Jay Shay is said to be actively developing a blueprint for the proposed league.

This initiative comes amid the growing popularity and increased viewership of the 20-over Indian Premier League (IPL), which recently achieved decacorn status with a valuation of approximately $10.7 billion, as highlighted in a recent report by Brand Finance earlier this week.

Currently, the franchise have all power to refuse all kind of new models that BCCI proposes and are similar to IPL. People aware of the development has advised the board to take care of following things for the smooth running of the newly added tournament. This includes adding an age-bracket which will prevent the eating up of IPL popularity and to ensure the participation of white ball cricketers in the league. They also added that the boards will be financially benefited by launching this series but will be a threat to the 50 over-format.

But no official statement has been released by BCCI as of now. Recently, as per the Bloomberg report, Saudi Arabia who are now taking efforts to become a global player in international sports, have showed interest in investing in IPL. The kingdom may invest an amount of $ 5 billion into the league and will help to lead an expansion into other countries, similar to English Premier league or other European leagues.
