German manager Jurgen Klopp has on Friday announced that he will step down as manager of Liverpool in the end of Premier League 2023-24. His decision comes after guiding the Merseyside side club to the Carabao Cup final at Wembley in midweek. He was appointed to the role in 2015.
Klopp lived up to his managerial credentials at the club in his “outstandingly successful eight-and-a-half years” as admitted by Liverpool. The German admitted that his decision might come as a shock to a lot of people but he loved every moment at the club. Meanwhile, he also mentioned that this decision was long in the making. “Yes, I have to. I will leave the club at the end of the season.
“I can understand that that’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment, when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it. I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything.
“But that I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take. It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now.”
Under the tutelage of Klopp, the English football giants won four trophies and still to contest for a few before the season comes to an end. He guided Liverpool to becoming the Premier League champions in 2019-10 and the club currently remains at the top of the league table.
