Backing Imran Khan, Wasim Akram slams Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not including Mr Khan in the tribute video that was released in commemoration of the country”s Independence on 14 August. The video celebrates the important milestones of Pakistan cricket, but forget to mention the World Cup winning captain.

PCB “rectifying the mistakes”, reposted the video on Thursday 17 August.

Wasim Akram is Pakistan”s former Cricket Captain and an international sports commentator.

He asked the PCB to delete the video and apologise to the Imran Khan. Mr Khan, a former cricketer, was also the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan.

“After long flights and hours of transit before reaching Sri Lanka, I got the shock of my life when I watched PCB’s short clip on the history of Pakistan cricket minus the great Imran Khan”, wrote Mr Akram on X.

He asked the PCB to leave the political differences apart and consider the legacy of Mr Khan as a cricketer. “Political differences apart but Imran Khan is an icon of world cricket and developed Pakistan into a strong unit in his time and gave us a pathway”, Mr Akram added.

While the video secured a place for Salim Malik, Wasim Akram, and Inzamam-Ul-Haq, their former captain Imran Khan did not even find a snippet or picture despite leading the team to victory in 1992.

It was Mr Khan who captained the Pakistan national team to their victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup. It is also the Pakistan’s only victory in the World Cup.

The video was released by PCB through their official X handle (formerly Twitter), on Monday. And is part of the “promotional campaign for the 2023 Cricket World Cup (CWC)”, said the PCB.

Rectifying the mistakes in the August 14th video, PCB reposted the video on Thursday.

“The PCB has launched a promotional campaign leading up to the CWC 2023. One of the videos was uploaded on 14th August 2023. Due to its length, the video was abridged and some important clips were missing. This has been rectified in the complete version of the video”, said PCB sharing the video on X.

“Imran Khan with Pakistan”s memorable World Cup triumph”, says the new video with the footages of Mr Khan holding the trophy.

However, Wasim Akram was left out from the updated video of the PCB.

After retiring from cricket, Imran Khan turned into politics. He founded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and served as the 22nd Prime Minister of the country from 2018 to 2022. He was removed from the office after a successful vote of no-confidence in 2022. From then he has been slapped with some 150 legal cases and was also arrested in May on corruption charges.
