Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has produced a phenomenal performance by smashing a commanding double-century for Mumbai in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group A clash against Odisha. The Mumbai batter who has been currently out of India’s national team has fired back with his exceptional form at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy.

Shreyas had reached the landmark with a four against Debabrata Pradhan, off the 201st ball he faced in the innings. He had smashed 21 fours and eight sixes against the Odisha bowling attack to get to his third First-Class double hundred.

Shreyas had showcased his prowess with a mammoth 233 off just 228 balls. He has broken the seven-year wait for his first-class double century.
He had also surpassed his previous highest first-class score of 202 in no time.

This is the second consecutive century in the tournament having already scored a brilliant 142 in the last fixtures he played against Maharashtra.

However, it is to be noted that Shreya’s return to action has come after a one-match break to rest a shoulder injury. Moreover, his latest knock is crucial as it is just ahead of the IPL mega auction which is scheduled for November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

His blazing form is sure to catch the attention of franchises, as Iyer, the first captain not to be retained after leading his IPL team to a title.

Iyer’s hundreds have also rekindled his hopes to return to the Indian Test team. He was part of the squad when England visited these shores earlier this year. And his double century has come at a time when Indian batsman has been going through a troubled period. The side had recently faced a 0-3 whitewash at the hand of New Zealand earlier this week. This had put further pressure on the batting order.
