As the fans are waiting for the return of former Indian captain and cricket great Virat Kohli to the ground, former South Africa captain AB de Villiers has put an end to all speculations surrounding Virat Kohli”s absence. Kohli had requested to the Indian cricket managing body a break from the first two Tests against England and now de Villiers revealed (and also confirmed the rumours) that star India batter and his wife Anushka Sharma are expecting their second child.
de Villiers has also voiced his support for Kohli”s decision to skip the matches, praising him for prioritizing his family. He emphasized that Kohli shouldn”t be judged for taking a break to be with his loved ones during this significant phase of his life.
de Villiers assured fans that Kohli is doing well and spending quality time with his family, which is the reason for his absence from the first two Tests. Refraining from divulging further details, de Villiers shared a message from Kohli, indicating that he is focused on being with his family at this time.
“Yes, his second child is on the way. Yes, it”s family time and things are important to him. If you are not true and genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for. I think most people”s priority is family. You can”t judge Virat for that. Yes, we miss him. But he has made absolutely the right decision,” the former cricketer said while speaking on his YouTube show on Saturday.
Acknowledging Kohli”s commitment to his family and the impending arrival of his second child, de Villiers stressed the importance of prioritizing family over other commitments. He asserted that it”s natural for people to prioritize their loved ones and expressed understanding for Kohli”s decision. Despite missing him on the field, de Villiers believes that Kohli has made the right choice for himself and his family.
“All I know is he is fine. He is spending a bit of time with his family, that is the reason he is missing the first two Test matches. I am not going to confirm anything else. I cannot wait to see him back. He is fine, he is doing well. Let me just see what he said. I just want to at least give you (fans) a little bit of love,” he added.
“So I wrote to him “Been wanting to check in with you for a while now biscuits. How are you?”. He said “Just need to be with my family right now. I am doing well,” he said.

Kohli had requested a break for the first two Tests, citing personal reasons, and the BCCI urged fans and media to respect his privacy. In a press release on January 22, the BCCI announced Kohli”s withdrawal from the initial matches and urged everyone to refrain from speculating about the nature of his personal reasons, emphasizing the need to support the Indian cricket team during the upcoming Test series.
“Virat has spoken to Captain Rohit Sharma, the team management and the selectors and has emphasized that while representing the country has always been his top priority, certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention,” BCCI said in a statement.
“The BCCI respects his decision and the Board and team management has extended its support to the star batter and is confident in the abilities of the remaining squad members to step up and deliver commendable performances in the Test series.”
Virat and Anushka married in Italy on December, 2017, and on January 11, 2021, Sharma gave birth to a girl, Vamika.
