Indian leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi on Wednesday has topped in the ICC T20 International bowling chart. Bishnoi made his international debut at the start of the last year.
The 23-year-old achieved this remarkable feat as a result of his standout performance and ‘Player of the series’ accolade in the recently concluded series against Australia. He has picked up 34 wickets from 21 T20I matches since debuting against the West Indies in February 2022.
Ravi Bishnoi is the only sole Indian to be in the top 10 of the ICC T20I bowling rankings. Axar Patel too had commendable rise as he managed to secure the 11th position.
Bishnoi’s rise to the top was completely unexpected. The leg-spinner first caught the eye at ICC Men’s Under 19 Cricket World Cup 2020, where he finished the tournament with the most number wickets, 17. India finished as runners-up in the tournament.
The rise of Bishnoi to the top spot promises a great cricketing future to India, with the team showcasing depth and talent across all disciplines.
The biggest movers in the latest ranking list includes Indian youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal who soared up 16 places to 19th position just behind top-ranked teammate Suryakumar Yadav. While Australia’s Travis Head improves 16 places to 29th after his admirable performance in the recent series in his sub-continent.
Despite missing the World Cup campaign as well as the series against Australia due to injury, Hardik Pandya maintains his stronghold in the all-rounder’s category securing the third position.
Meanwhile, Indian opener Shubman Gill and South African spinner Keshav Maharaj remain in the top position of the ODI rankings.
