Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra qualified for Paris Olympics by entering World Athletics Championships final with a 88.77m throw. Chopra, reigning Olympic champion, World Championships silver medallist and the Diamond League champion in the javelin throw, was competing in the men’s qualification event Group A at the nineteenth World Athletics Championships being held from 19 to 27, August 2023 at the National Athletics Centre, in Budapest, Hungary.
The qualifying mark for the Paris Olympics is 85.50 meters. The qualifying window began on July 1, 2023. Chopra”s throw was his season”s best and topped Group A of the qualifying round.
“Neeraj Chopra opening throw in qualification 88.77m. He has qualified for medal round. Automatic qualification 83m. Or best 12 advance to final,” Athletics Federation of India said in an X (formerly Twitter) post.
