AI Takes Center Stage In Samsung Galaxy S24 Series

Edited by Akhil Thomas

Samsung launched the much-awaited Galaxy S24 series smartphones on January 17. The introduction of generative AI technology in the S24 series was the main attraction of the Galaxy Unpacked event, held in San Jose. The Galaxy S24 smartphones will be equipped with Google Gemini and other AI capabilities.

“The new Samsung Galaxy S24 series will use Gemini, Google’s best-in-class foundational models, to power the next generation of AI capabilities,” announced Google on January 17. Gemini Pro will be integrated into certain Samsung apps to improve functionality. Samsung’s Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard apps on the Galaxy S24 series will use Gemini Pro to provide better summarization features.

For example, Samsung users can record a lecture using Voice Recorder and will be able to quickly get a summary of the most important parts of the lesson. Google says that Imagen 2 will offer image editing features using Generative Edit within the Galaxy S24 Gallery app. Notably, Imagen 2 is Google’s advanced text-to-image diffusion technology.

Google also announced that the S24 series will arrive with a built-in Gemini Nano. This is Google’s most efficient model for on-device tasks. The Gemini Nano will enable a new feature in Google Messages. Google’s recently launched ‘Circle to Search‘ feature will be available on Galaxy S24 series smartphones. This feature helps Samsung users search anything on their smartphone by using gestures.

Apart from these, the Galaxy S24 series is also packed with various Galaxy AI features. Samsung is also offering Galaxy AI features for select older devices. The Live Translate feature will be found on the new Samsung Galaxy S24. A two-way, real-time voice and text translation of phone calls within the native app is possible with Live Translate. Samsung also unveiled the Chat Assist feature, which can help perfect conversational tones. The company also claims that the AI built into the Samsung Keyboard can translate messages in real time in 13 languages.

However, as per Samsung’s terms and conditions for its Galaxy S24 webpage, the Galaxy AI features are only free for about two years. “Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices. Different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties,” mentioned Samsung on the device page. But Samsung has not mentioned whether users are required to spend money to access these features after the two-year period.
