Apple has just rolled out a new feature for its “Find My” network that will make it easier to track and find lost items. It is called “Share Item Location,” this feature lets iPhone users share the real-time location of an AirTag or compatible accessory with others, like airlines.

This is available on iOS 18.2 public beta for iPhone XS and newer models, this feature generates a secure link that shows the item’s location.

You can share this link with third-party services and even airlines to help find your lost item. Apple has already partnered with several airlines, including United, Delta and British Airways to make baggage recovery a breeze.

Here’s how it works:

You create a secure link in the Find My app, share it with whoever needs to find your item and they can track its location in real-time. The shared location automatically expires after seven days or can be manually stopped by you at any time.

Apple claims that the Share Item Location feature is built on the secure Find My network that leverages a crowdsourced network of over 1 billion Apple devices and Bluetooth wireless technology to detect missing devices or items nearby.

The company assured that the entire process is end-to-end encrypted and anonymous, ensuring total privacy and security. According to Apple, this means that no one, including Apple itself. Users can share location information with third parties such as airlines without compromising their privacy, providing an additional layer of peace of mind when tracking lost items.
