Since the brawl between Elon Musk and Brazil’s Supreme Court has been discussed and sparked controversy, the X platform in Brazil confronts a ban from Justice  Alexandre de Moraes on Saturday as it doesn’t comply with the country’s law.

Elon Musk stated on the social media platform X that the ultimate goal of democracy is to ensure people’s voices are heard as they have the right to speak freely, he slammed the ruling, saying that the pseudo-judge in Brazil is destroying it for his political agenda crushing common people under their boots.

The top court in the country has stated that the X platform was preserved. Nevertheless, the X mobile app and the web version are currently inaccessible to users in Brazil. Elon Musk said the compatriots can use another VPN and log in to the account. However, Some are going behind Bluesky and Threads as they seem to be alternative social media platforms to gather regular news. On the contrary, X CEO Musk has shown a demo of using VPN in the country.

He notified that at least 40 million people use the X platform In Brazil and they access it to garner news from around the globe. The dismissal of this app may impact its business since the advertising revenue has already halted on the platform.

What was the cause of this conflict and Ban?

The ban on the platform has arisen on account of the tussle between billionaire Elon Musk and Justice de Moraes. Supreme Court suspended a myriad number of X accounts in April due to policy violations and the spread of disinformation. The court has eliminated the X accounts that belonged to the Jair Bolsonaro supporters (Brazilian politician and retired military officer who served as the 38th President from 2019 to 2023 and is also known for his right-wing nationalist politics). Later, the X platform blocked the accounts since the court imposed a whopping fine as the app didn’t comply with the proposed law and order.

However, it didn’t bother Musk as he restored the blocked accounts and wrote on X that Justice de Moraes has to be impeached from the position. In response to Musk’s action and actuate statements the judge kicked off an investigation for alleged encroachment to laws and the obstruction of justice.

The court has levied a fine on those who continue to use Brazilians X via VPN of $50,000 (approx. Rs 7.4 lakh). the court has also issued an order to freeze Musk’s satellite communication service provider Starlink’s finances on account of the ongoing brawl. This ban of X in Brazil may further add to the list of countries such as Russia, Iran, China, North Korea, Mynamar and Turkmenistan that have banned X due to similar yet serious concerns.
