Betavolt, a Chinese startup, has recently claimed that they have successfully developed a miniature atomic energy battery. Betavolt said that the nuclear battery can generate electricity for 50 years without the need for charging or maintenance. According to the company, the Betavolt BV100 has already entered the pilot stage and will be put into mass production on the market.

Beijing-based Betavolt said in its press release that the latest atomic energy batteries can meet the requirements of long-lasting power supply in various scenarios, including aerospace, AI equipment, medical equipment, advanced sensors, and micro-robots. This battery uses the latest atomic battery technology, constructed using a nickel-63 isotope and diamond semiconductor material. The Betavolt has a miniaturized atomic energy system, which places 63 nuclear isotopes into a module smaller than a coin.

Betavolt said that this innovation will help China gain a leading edge in the new round of the AI technological revolution. According to the company, the nuclear battery can provide 100 microwatts of power and a voltage of 3V. Notably, it measures 15 x 15 x 5 millimeters. Betavolt is aiming to unveil a battery with a power of 1 watt in 2025. Betavolt said that if the policies permit, they are also planning for a future where mobile phones never need to be charged and drones can fly continuously.

This atomic energy battery is claimed to be safe, has no external radiation, and is suitable for use in medical devices such as pacemakers, artificial hearts, and cochleas in the human body. Betavolt”s new technology is expected to revolutionize electronics by removing the need for chargers.
