Skyscraper under construction collapses in Bangkok, Thailand, following the earthquake in Myanmar

Myanmar: Powerful earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 on the Richter scale hit Myanmar and neighbouring Thailand on Friday (March 28). The tremors of the quake felt in India’s Meghalaya and several northeastern states, Bangladesh, and China’s southwest Yunnan province.

According to US Geological Survey and Germany’s GFZ center for geosciences, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 16 kilometers northwest of Sagaing in Myanmar and had a shallow depth of 10 kilometers. As per the reports, a 30-story building under construction collapsed in Bangkok, trapping 43 workers.

The strong tremors greatly felt in Bangkok, causing residents to evacuate buildings quickly as a safety measure. As per the reports, a 30-story building under construction collapsed in Bangkok, trapping 43 workers. The quake has resulted damage to buildings in Bangkok and in the suspension of metro and light rail services in sone parts of the city. Following the earthquake, Thailand PM has announced state of emergency in Thailand.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern over the situation, and offered all possible assistance.
