Ananth Krishnan, the renowned Indian journalist, is all set to begin a new chapter in his career. Ananth Krishnan was serving as the China correspondent for The Hindu newspaper. On Wednesday, he announced on his X handle that he is “signing off as China correspondent” and will take up a new role with The Hindu in Chennai.
“Signing off as China correspondent with this recent interview with @VGokhale59 on his book & India-China ties,” wrote Ananth Krishnan on his X handle on January 24. “Thank you for reading! It”s been a great 12 yrs with The Hindu & India Today. Looking forward to taking up a new role with The Hindu in Chennai,” he added in the post. Notably, Ananth Krishnan”s final interview as China correspondent was with Vijay Gokhale, the former Foreign Secretary, Ambassador to China, and author of the new book “Crosswinds: Nehru, Zhou and the Anglo-American Competition over China”.

Ananth Krishnan also earlier served as the Beijing-based associate editor at the India Today Group. As per the website of the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies, Harvard University”s center for interdisciplinary research, Ananth Krishnan was also a former Visiting Fellow at Brookings India (2018–19) and an AsiaGlobal Fellow at the University of Hong Kong (2019).
Ananth Krishnan, who has reported from China for close to a decade, holds a master”s degree in history from the University of Chicago and bachelor”s degrees in history and economics from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The experienced journalist is the author of “India”s China Challenge: A Journey Through China”s Rise and What It Means for India,” which was published in 2020. Ananth Krishnan”s reporting has mainly focused on India-China relations and China”s diplomacy.
