Google Set To Remove Explicit Deepfakes From Its Search Results

Earlier this year, Google prohibited several advertisers from deepfake porn promotions.

One of the most used search engines Google may roll out a new online safety feature that allows users to remove explicit deepfake images from their search results. The new feature will deny AI-generated deepfakes popping up in the search findings.

According to a recent blog post, Google said that the new search algorithm would be deployed considering the growing situation of deepfake image issues reported at large. The company has taken feedback from experts and has developed a new method to identify the problem making it easier for all the users.

If any user asks Google to identify the creepy deepfake image the company will try to filter and prevent deepfakes wiping off the duplicate images from the results. The company stated that these efforts are taken to provide peace of mind misusing their images and related content that could never pop up in any of the search results in the future.

Google also claims that the recent updates have changed the search result algorithm and the queries have dwindled by over 70 per cent to remove consensual deepfakes from Google’s search space. Earlier this year, Google prohibited several advertisers from deepfake porn promotions.

In August 2023, Google started containing overt sexual materials by blurring explicit pictures showing up on the search results. The major decisions were made after related issues were addressed and reacted to on various platforms especially this year when Taylor Swift’s deepfake image was found deluging social media with millions of shares and comments.
