Israel is on the path to unveiling its first supercomputer with the notion of maintaining global leadership in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The government is planning to invest $250 million in a national AI program and has prepared a tender to launch AI focusing on the country’s economic growth.

According to Reuters, Israel is set to launch a tender to establish its debut supercomputer to affirm the country’s influence in the field of technology and to continue as the global leader in Artificial Intelligence. It was said by the Chief Executive of the Israel Innovation Authority Dror Bin On Wednesday.

He noted that of the country’s 9,000 startups, 2,200 use AI and Israel has the third most generative AI firms in the world. Israel is budgeting $250 million on a national scale, he stated at the AI conference. The researchers and tech companies will be able to make use of this technological innovation at a lower cost, he added.

He spoke about the tech companies and start-ups in Israel and their growth in these years explaining Israel’s strength in Gen AI. It was addressed during the #AIweek Conference held at Tel Aviv University, Israel. He also mentioned that whilst AI has been a companion for Israel’s tech sector, it combats many issues if people don’t take action on time.

The major share of about 60% AI budget will be executed in 2024 and completed in 2027 with more funding. Tech accounts for about 20% of the country’s economic output and is regarded as one of the largest tech centres across the globe. Israel intends to pace their global race through its supercomputers.

Dror Bin extended his concerns that even a humongous tech company has to purchase time in the cloud to train a large model since there is no local data centre with a significant amount of graphic processing units (GPU). The supercomputer would wipe off this problem and reduce market cost making it available and affordable for tech companies.
